My Moccasin Obsession

Okay guys, I have a confession. I am absolutely obsessed and quite possibly in love with these little moccasins. When Riley’s feet grew big enough to fit into a shoe I came across these gorgeous little moccs and that was that.

Riley sometimes wears converse or a dress sandal, but she almost always finds a way to throw them off and simply can’t stand them. The moccasins on the other hand… stay on her feet! She is walking now, and it is my go to shoe for her because she can walk in them and still feel comfortable. We put them on her to go everywhere! They are extremely versatile and pack amazingly.

So who makes these gorgeous little gems???

Riley’s 1st time at the beach (VIDEO)

We got to spend the entire week with our family at the beach. It has become a tradition in our family to spend some time at our favorite beach when summer hits. It was a bit gloomy this time around but we found little peak a boos of sunshine here and there. I wanted to share this video my little brother made of Riley in the ocean and on the sand for the first time. This is also the first official video post I am doing here on the blog. I hope you enjoy! Do you remember your first time at the beach?

Mommy Beach Essentials

Hi Guys!

I’ve been absent from my blog because we are on our annual family beach trip! We are having an absolute blast. It’s always nice to take a moment to enjoy your family alongside deliciously warm weather and icy cold drinks.

I wanted to some time out to share a couple of essentials that i’ve been taking with me everyday down to the beach. These are my “mommy must-haves.” Let me know if you use any of these products and if you like them. If not, what are your must haves for the beach?

Enjoy!

The List

*A sun hat! It’s so important to protect your face from the sun, regardless of if you’re wearing sunscreen or not. I bought mine from http://www.shopbop.com a couple of years ago.

*Leave-in! I always bring some sort of leave in hair product with me to the beach. The sun and salt water can be so damaging to hair. I put the product in my hair before, during, and after my day on the beach. It keeps my hair moisturized and protected from all of the factors of the beach. Any product will do.

*Sunscreen! It’s so important to protect your skin even on a daily basis. I use The Honest Company’s sunscreen (see side bar for link!). Remember to always reapply your sunscreen every 40 mins-1hr. I love this sunscreen beacause it’s baby safe so i use it on riley too!

*Face sunscreen! Your regular sunscreen will do just fine, but I like a product that’s specially formulated for the face. Most times this will ensure that you don’t get a mean white cast on your face from the product. The face sunscreens usually have a stronger spf and some sort of moisturizer in it to keep your skin hydrated. I love the Josie Maran broad spectrum spf 40 lotion. I bought it at sephora.

*Chapstick! To keep your lips moist and hydrated! Any lip product will do, one with an SPF is even better.

*Sunglasses! To shield your windows to the soul ;) (Your favorite pair is most definitely necessary while at the beach)

*Detangling Comb! To avoid tangles after after you get out of the water! Mason Pearson makes an amazing comb, but any comb will do.

*WATER WATER WATER !!! It is so important to stay hydrated when your in the sun. Tons of water is key everyone!

Family Bike Ride!

Over the weekend we decided to rent some bikes and take a nice family bike ride! We had such a blast and are now considering getting some bikes to ride on a regular basis. Riley loved it! It was a great way for us to all spend some time together and take in the nice weather. After the ride was over we decided to stop at a restaurant we’d never been to and get  some drinks! To our surprise the restaurant had a drink named after Stephen (how cool is that?!) . He had a glass of himself (I can’t stop laughing) and I had a cool refreshing mock-tail. It was such a great day! Have you ever gone bike riding with your family? Feel free to share any cool adventurous family fun stories with me in the comments below!

Here are a few photos from our adventure. Enjoy!

PB &J Cereal French Toast… Say What?!!!

Okay… This is all going to make sense once you finish reading this post. Really after you taste this, it doesn’t even have to make sense if you don’t want it to because it is so darn delicious.

I was watching “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” over the weekend and came across the most interesting peanut butter and Jelly sandwich I’ve ever seen. It was your classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich, dipped in french toast batter, coated in crushed frosted flakes and cooked as you would french toast… AMAZING.

Seriously just try it. I’ve posted the recipe below. Let me know what you think! Enjoy!

Ingredients

2 Slices of bread

1 tbsp Jelly (i prefer strawberry)

1 tbsp almond butter (I can’t eat peanuts, I break out… BAD… yet my favorite chocolate bar is a reese’s cup, naturally)

1 egg

splash of milk

cinnamon and nutmeg to taste

1/2 cup crushed frosted flakes

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Directions

You simply make the nut butter and jelly sandwich as you would normally. In a small bowl combine the egg, spices and splash of milk to make your french toast batter. Dip the sandwich in the batter for about 5-10 seconds each side. Then, coat the battered sandwich with the crushed frosted flakes. Melt the butter in a skillet on medium high heat and grill the sandwich on each side until it’s a nice golden brown! Cut it into halves or quarters and enjoy with a nice giant glass of ice cold milk! YUM!

***My sandwich got a little too toasty for the photos but was still DELISH! ***

BF Mamas! I need your help!

*****WOW! Thank you all so much! The response has been overwhelming. You guys have given me so much great advice! Thank YOU! I will do an update on what I ended up doing once we pick a plan and execute it out. *****

This post is for all of the BF moms out there and moms who have BF their babies in the past.

Riley is 10 months now, and I am still BF her. My plan was to do it until she was 6 months, but I felt it was necessary and convenient for us to continue on until she’s a year. I am a stay at home mom so it’s convenient for us to BF.

Now that the summer is here and she is beginning to walk I feel it is time to start the weaning process. I want to skip formula all together and just make the transition to regular cows milk. The problem is, I have no idea where to even begin making the switch!

I feed her to sleep at night so I am not sure how this is going to work out.

What happens to babies tummy? Are there any behavioural changes during the transition? How much cows milk do babies need per day at a year?!

MAMAS LET ME KNOW!!! Please email or leave comments below on how you transitioned and what worked best for you. Thank You!

Pray For Oklahoma

My heart has been so heavy thinking about all of the lives saved and lost in Oklahoma from this weekends tragic event. As a christian I find it so hard sometimes to wrap my head around how God could let things like this happen to innocent children and families. The only thing that keeps me at peace and makes me realize what were really living for is that our bodies are not our bodies. We’re borrowing them. We have souls and there is a better place for them to rest and live, in heaven. I know for certain with all of my heart that there is a heaven. This is the waiting room! We’re all just trying to get to heaven! Some people just get there quicker than others. It’s the only explanation in my mind. Our God is an awesome God through the good and the bad and in the end it is all going to make sense.

Oklahoma we are praying for you.

There are plenty of ways we can help the families who have lost everything in the tornado. There are unfortunately a slew of scam sites, so be careful. A reputable charity is the REDCROSS. They have made it easy to donate and help the families in need…

A Weeks Worth!

The past week has been a busy one. It’s been quite hectic but extremely fun nonetheless. Riley, my in laws and a few close friends watched my husband and the Warriors fight their butts off to make it to game 7 in the 2nd round of the playoffs. It was an extremely close game, but in the end our guys were tired and simply needed rest. They accomplished more this season than any of the critics and media thought they would. We had 0% chance of even making it to the playoffs! Next season is going to be incredible so get ready Warriors fans!

After a whirlwind season, we hopped on a red eye the following evening and headed to Charlotte, NC (our hometown). I was there attending a blogging seminar. It was great and I learned some great tips that I can’t wait to implement into my blog. I literally went from the airport, changed at the house and went straight to the seminar. We were then able to spend the rest of the weekend with our family. It was AWESOME!!! Riley got some much needed grandparents time on monday while Stephen and I had a date day!

What did we do?

Naturally, we went to the arcade to play games and then hit some softballs at the batting cages. Chic Fil A for lunch? Why yes of course! We ended off our date by seeing The Great Gatsby at a great theatre in Charlotte called “Cinebarre”. COOLEST PLACE EVER! They have a full food and drink menu and you can order and eat in your seats while you watch the film!

The craziness continued the next morning when my little family hopped on a 7 am flight and headed back to the bay just in time to head to (GET THIS) the Mayor’s office! Stephen was presented with the key to the city! Such an honor. It was amazing to see the city come out and support the Warriors for their wonderful accomplishments this season. I was definitely a proud wife, as I see all of the hard work he puts in on a daily basis. Everyone at the event was warm and welcoming and you could genuinely feel what a great place the city of San Francisco and the bay area is. We are so happy to be living here!

Well that’s all I have for now! I am off to the dentist… yikes! Here are a couple of photos and links to vine videos from over the weekend. Enjoy!

Parsley-Mint Sauce!!!

This sauce is seriously delicious. My mouth is watering as I type away. It’s green, fresh, delicious, healthy  and simple. You can pair this sauce with pretty much any type of meat or seafood you like. It adds an instant burst of flavor to any meal. My family LOVES this sauce! Last night I paired the sauce with macadamia crusted tilapia, sautéed corn and skillet potatoes. It was super yummy (I’ll post the tilapia recipe at a later date). This is also something you can make ahead and always have on hand in the refrigerator or freezer. Enjoy!

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup fresh parsley

Handful of fresh mint

2 chopped scallions

4 cloves garlic

juice of 1 lemon

3 tablespoons of honey (give or take)

pinch of salt

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 water or white wine ;)

***Literally throw all of these ingredients into a blender and pulse until its a creamy sauce. Delish! ***

My First Mother’s Day

I hope all of the moms out there had a fantastic Mother’s Day. The day was completely surreal for me as I don’t think it’s hit me yet that I’m a mommy! I feel so blessed and honored to be able to raise Riley. God couldn’t have given me a sweeter little girl. I LOVE being Riley’s mama! We spent the day watching dada play playoff basketball at “Roaracle”. Turns out we won! Such a great gift right?! We then had a calm evening at home and ate dinner at Pican in downtown Oakland (food is delish). It was a great day and I am happy I was able to spend the time with my little family. What did you guys do? Comment below!
